DPI-Dyslexia Screening Tool Application Logo
  • North Dakota Dyslexia Screening Tool Application

  • APPLICATION OVERVIEW

  • Background

NDCC 15.1-32-26 requires that each school district provide a universal screening for dyslexia for enrolled children seven years of age and younger. Additionally, school districts must provide a universal screener upon request by a parent, legal guardian, or teacher. Screeners must be approved by the superintendent of public instruction.
  • Purpose of this Application

North Dakota will review Vendor Applications to establish and publish an approved list of dyslexia screening tools for local school district selection guidance.
  • Submission Process

    • Review cycle: Applications will be reviewed and responded to two times per year. Applications may be submitted at any time. Applications received by February 1 will be reviewed and responded to by March 1. Applications received by June 1 will be reviewed and responded to by July 1.
    • Approved screening tools will remain on the list until further notice. North Dakota will contact all approved vendors if a renewal process is enacted.
    • All submitted material is subject to public record and, therefore, must not contain personally identifiable information.
    • Questions about the application process may be submitted to dpiliteracy@nd.gov. Attention: Brenda.
  • Response Guidelines

  • Applicants should provide information demonstrating that the screener meets the identified criteria by responding to each prompt with narrative and evidence.

    • Narrative: Provide clear, concise summaries to address the prompts. Provide enough information to inform the reviewer of the main features, without becoming overly technical or excessive in length.
    • Evidence: Support answers with links, attached documents, samples, or screenshots as best provide relevant evidence.

Applicants will answer a series of prompts to demonstrate that the screener:

    • Is efficient.
    • Provides alternate forms for multiple administration within the school year.
    • Is reliable, valid, and has been normed.
    • Provides technical support to those administering the screener and interpreting the results.
    • Measures the commonly accepted dyslexia indicator skills listed in the body of the application.
    • Produces scoring and reports with clear indication of dyslexia risk determination.
